ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety this past weekend announced the death of one of its troopers in Ector County.

  • DPS said Ramirez Vasquez was hit on Sept. 17. He later died at a Lubbock-area hospital. He was only 25 years old

  • Funeral arrangements will be announced this week 

Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, who was only 25 years old, was struck by a vehicle while investigating a crash along SH 302. According to DPS, it happened about 9 a.m. on Sept. 17,

He was taken to Medical Center Hospital and later airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital. He died on Saturday.

“There are no words to ease the loss of one of our brothers in uniform,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably to his very last breath. His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifice he made will never be forgotten. Today, I ask that you keep his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers during the difficult days ahead.”

Ramirez Vasquez began his law enforcement career with DPS in 2023 and was stationed in Odessa. He served in the U.S. Army prior to that and was currently serving in the National Guard.

The trooper is survived by his parents and three siblings. Funeral arrangements are set to be announced in the coming days.
