A 10-year-old Kerrville ISD student has been charged with a felony third degree terrorist threat after allegedly uploading a post to social media threatening a school shooting at a Kerrville middle school.

According to a Kerrville Police Department statement released on Monday, the unnamed student posted "a hoax threat to social media with the intent of causing alarm or panic.” The threats on social media were targeted at Hal Peterson Middle School and were received overnight on Monday, and intended to take effect on Tuesday.

The police department began investigating after multiple concerned individuals reported the social media post.

No valid threat to Hal Peterson Middle School was discovered, however.

“The legal consequences for people who make threats, including juveniles, can be severe and permanent,” the police said in a social media post.

In the statement, the agency also encouraged parents to have a conversation with their children about the dangers of referencing violence in any social media post.

“We strongly urge parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of making threats, or posting information to social media that reference violence to our schools,”  the police said. “Remind your children that school threats are a felony and will have serious consequences.”
