TEXAS — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is making changes for toll users next month. TxTag users will transition to the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) for toll collection, billing and customer service operations, according to a news release.

TxDOT is asking users to sign into their account by Nov. 1 to confirm personal details and payment methods. This transition is set to affect roughly 3 million TxTag users.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • If your account is active and in good standing, you can continue to use your TxTag and pay the lowest rates on toll roads in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas if the transition occurs and your account is transferred to HCTRA.

  • If your account is not active or in good standing, it will not be transferred.

  • If you don’t have a TxTag but are receiving billing in the mail, you can sign up for the service before Nov. 1.

How do I know if my account is in good standing or bad standing?

An account in good standing will have had transactions and used your TxTag to pay tolls in the past 12 months, and does not have a balance due.

If you’re still unsure, you’re asked to contact TxTag’s customer service at 1-888-468-9824, through web chat or by calling or visit one of the five Austin metro area TxTag walk-in centers.

If your account isn’t transferred, you will need to request a new toll tag from HCTRA. Waiting to request a new tag after Nov. 1 will result in higher toll rates, additional fees on toll roads and you may be subject to fines for unpaid tolls.
