TEXAS — In memory of the 23 victims of the El Paso Walmart shooting on Aug. 3, 2019, Deputy Director Gregory Jackson will be present at a local remembrance ceremony. In addition, Jackson will share messages from President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

In their letters, the president and vice president shared their condolences with the loved ones of the 23 victims.

The remembrance ceremony will take place at Jim Crouch Park, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The ceremony will feature speeches by Mayor Oscar Leeser, the consulate general of Mexico in El Paso and a special recognition by Fort Bliss. In addition, there will be the unveiling of the “August 3rd Memorial,” a granite artwork created by El Paso-based artist Albert “Tino” Ortega.

Starting at 8:30 p.m., the El Paso Chamber will flash the Star on the Mountain 23 times to commemorate each victim.

On Aug. 3, 2019, a devastating mass shooting unfolded at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas. The gunman, Patrick Wood Crusius, took the lives of 23 people and caused injuries to 22 others.

The victims spanned various ages and backgrounds, from a young athlete to elderly grandparents, immigrants to retired workers, and even Mexican nationals on routine shopping trips.
