SCURRY COUNTY, Texas  — Parts of Texas have been rattled by a series of earthquakes — some of them strong — over the past week and a half.

Now, Scurry County, which is located west of Fort Worth and southeast of Lubbock, has declared disaster.

The county, which as of the 2020 census had a population of 16,932, sustained damage at businesses and homes.

County Judge Dan Hicks declared a disaster on June 26, hoping to obtain state funds for repairs.

County residents are encouraged to fill out an iSTAT form to report damage. They are available in English and Spanish.

“Scurry County has had 61 earthquakes in the last 7 days. Since the first earthquake that was felt on July 22, 2024 at about 9:38 PM, a 4.9, and a 4.4 at about 9:46 PM to today’s 5.0 at about 9:28 AM July 26, 2024, damage has been found throughout Scurry County in businesses and residences,” Hicks wrote.
