HOUSTON — U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who passed away Friday at age 74, will lie in state inside the Houstin City Hall rotunda, according to Houston Mayor John Whitmire. 

Whitmire announced that the longtime congresswoman and representative of Texas’ 18th Congressional District will lie in state at Houston City Hall on Monday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The public will be allowed to pay their final respects and sign a book of condolence.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s family, staff, and friends. This is a time for unity across Houston as we honor her life and legacy,” Whitmire said.

Jackson Lee will be the second person to lie in state in the city’s rotunda, preceded only by heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey, whose body lay in state after his passing 16 years ago.  

On Wednesday, full details of Jackson Lee's "Celebration of Life" were announced.

On Tuesday, July 30, there will be a viewing and remembrance at God's Grace Community Church, located at 9944 W. Montgomery Rd. in Houston. It will take place from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. 

On Wednesday, there will be a viewing at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, located at 3826 Wheeler Ave. in Houston. That will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. At the same location, a community farewell and appreciation service will take place that day from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. 

On Thursday, funeral services will be held at Fallbrook Church, located at 12512 Walters Rd. in Houston. It's scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. 

All services and tributes will be live-streamed.
