TEXAS — A new poll from the University of Texas at Tyler shows Republican Sen. Ted Cruz leads his opponent, Democratic Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas, by just 4 points among registered voters in Texas.

Support for Cruz was at 43%, while 39% would support Allred in his bid to become Texas’ senator. Libertarian Ted Brown received 5% of the votes and 10% of respondents were undecided.

There was little change when comparing the polling results for likely voters. Cruz led by 3 points with 45% to Allred’s 42%. Five percent would vote for Brown and 7% were undecided.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents have a very unfavorable view of Cruz, while 20% have a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of the senator.

For Allred, 34% of respondents don’t know enough about him to say whether their opinion of him is favorable or unfavorable, though 20% of respondents said it was somewhat favorable.

Another poll from the University of Texas and the Texas Politics Project released last week showed Cruz leading Allred by 11 points, a large difference from UT Tyler’s results.

When given the choice between voting for President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the November presidential election, 46% of those polled said they’d support Trump, while 40% would support Biden. The UT/Texas Politics Project poll had similar results, showing Trump leading by 7 points.
