SAN ANTONIO — A shooting at a house in San Antonio Wednesday night has left one child dead and four people seriously injured, including two children.
At around 7:40 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in East Bexar County after many shots were fired into a home in what officials believe to be a targeted incident.
When officers arrived at the home, they found two adults and three children with gunshot wounds. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday morning that a 4-year-old girl died from her injuries.
All the other victims are in critical condition, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The three children who were shot are all under the age of 10, and the youngest victim was the 4-year-old girl who died. Salazar said in a news conference Wednesday night that the charges against the suspects will “easily” be upgraded to capital murder if any of the children died.
Salazar also confirmed that his department has two suspects they are searching for, and he is fairly confident they will make arrests soon.
The suspects were seen driving up to the house before getting out and shooting into the house with semi-automatic rifles.
Salazar said the suspects knew the victims and talked to them prior to the shooting.
“To me, the people that we’re considering suspects knew that the house they were shooting into had several children in it,” Salazar said.
Around 20-25 shots were fired into the home with high-capacity weapons before the suspects fled the area.
“It’s a miracle we aren’t dealing with five dead bodies right now,” said Salazar.
Officials say there isn’t an imminent threat to the public right now, and the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has more information about the shooting, Salazar asked them to call 210-335-6000.
