AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-based tech company InKind has bought hospitality group Etta Collective in a $4 million deal.

Etta Collective is made up of four restaurants, mainly in Chicago. The restaurants are Etta, Aya Pastry, Alston House and Kari. Etta, located in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier in 2024, according to Eater Chicago.

InKind focuses on restaurant finance and hospitality, connecting diners with top-rated restaurants, bars and cafes and offers a subscription to users. It was founded in 2017 by 41-year-old Johann Moonesinghe. InKind has about 1,700 participating restaurants. The company raises money for restaurants by charging a $9.99 subscription fee for users to earn 20% back on future meals at partner restaurants.

It’s Moonesinghe and InKind’s first experience with restaurant ownership. In the past two years, Moonesinghe has opened Austin restaurants The Guest House and Ember Kitchen & Subterra.

According to Eater Chicago, those who bidded on the purchase of Etta saw a chance to turn the restaurant group around and spark some growth.

The restaurant group sold in an auction to Moonesinghe. The sale was finalized on April 15.
