AUSTIN, Texas — Austin’s Major League Soccer team, Austin FC, is in the final stages of negotiations to host the 2025 Major League Soccer Game at Q2 Stadium.
That’s according to a report published on Monday by ESPN.
ESPN said the team is in “advanced talks” with MLS and nearing the completion of legal contracts.
The game would take place next summer.
The 2024 game will be hosted by the Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field. The MLS All Stars will face the superstars of Liga MX on July 24.
Last year, the MLS team lost 5-0 to Arsenal FC of the Premier League.
Unlike other North American all-star games, the MLS All-Star Game pits the best of MLS against select players from an international club or players from another league.
Austin FC, an expansion team, was founded in 2018 and began play in the 2021 season. It’s the first major professional sports team to play in the Texas capital.
In 2022, Austin FC advanced to the Western Conference Final but lost to LAFC 3-0.
Q2 Stadium seats 20,738.
