DALLAS — One student was injured in a probable shooting Friday morning at a Dallas high school, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
The student was shot in the leg by another student in a classroom at the school, according to Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde.
The student was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Wilmer-Hutchings High School, located at 5520 Langdon Road, at 10:36 a.m.
The call came in as an active shooter incident.
The suspect is currently in custody and the method the student used to get the gun into the school is still being investigated. Elizalde says they have metal detectors at the school.
Dallas ISD said in a Facebook post about 11 a.m. that students and staff are safe. Safety protocols were initiated, and people were urged to stay away from campus. Parents will be notified about picking their children up later.
This is a developing story.
