TEXAS — The Joint Task Force North on Friday confirmed a helicopter crash on the east side of Starr County, near Rio Grande City.

Joint Task Force North has also confirmed that the UH-72 Lakota helicopter, assigned to the federal government's border security mission, crashed near Rio Grande City. 

Four people were on board the helicopter.

The crash resulted in the deaths of three people, two soldiers and one U.S. Border Patrol agent. Another soldier was injured.

Starr County Judge Eloy Vera, the county’s top official, said those on board included one woman and three men. He said the person who was injured was in critical condition.

The names of the deceased individuals have not been made public yet.
