TEXAS — Driving in Texas is not for the faint of heart. A study from Forbes lists U.S. cities that have the worst drivers, and Texas cities were in the top 15 spots, with Dallas leading the state.

The rankings were based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration collected from 2017 to 2021 and 2022 U.S. Census Bureau data. 

Dallas is No. 6 in Forbes' list of cities with the worst drivers in the U.S. due to high numbers of fatal car accidents, right behind Kansas City. When compared to the rest of the state, Dallas is the most dangerous city in which to drive. 

Dallas has the third highest amount of fatal drunken driving car accidents when compared to other U.S. cities, with 6.25 per 100,000 city residents. It also has the fourth highest number of fatal car accidents involving speeding in the nation (5.69 per 100,000 city residents). For Dallas' total number of fatal car accidents in the nation, the city ranks No. 7. And it has the seventh highest number of people killed in fatal crashes when compared to other U.S. cities.

Fort Worth followed closely behind as the ninth city with the worst drivers overall, with 10.6 fatal car accidents per 100,000 residents.

San Antonio took the No. 12 spot, with Houston at No. 23 and Austin right behind it at No. 24.

The Alamo City had 10.46 fatal car accidents per 100,000 residents while Houston had 10.81. 

Austin had 8.85 fatal car accidents per 100,000 residents and 4.56 fatal car accidents involving a drunk driver. It had an overall score of 53.85 out of 100.
