Texas — Odell Bunton Jr., a 28-year-old Texas singer, left "American Idol" judges speechless with his soulful rendition of Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me.”
Bunton was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and now lives in Dallas, working as a security guard at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. At the age of 6, he knew singing was his calling. “I knew this is all I wanted to do. This is it!” said Bunton.
He and his siblings sang in the church choir every Sunday. He progressed to leading songs then moved to leading praise and worship. His mother prompted his and his siblings' vocal journeys. Bunton started pursuing music professionally at just 13 years old.
However, Bunton took a break from music when he welcomed his oldest daughter into the world. Being a good father and providing a future for all five of his children is a top priority.
Currently, he works the overnight shift at the airport. “It has not been easy trying to provide for five. It’s been a struggle,” Bunton said.
Odell’s family has been living in a hotel. “I never thought I’d be in a situation like this,” Bunton said. According to the the aspiring singer, staying encouraged while enduring his situation has been tough. Despite it all, his kids are biggest motivation.
His passionate performance garnered thousands of supporters and great admiration from the judges. Odell received a golden ticket to Hollywood and fans are excited to follow his journey.
