FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Zoo just got a lot cuter with the announcement of its newest addition, a lion cub.
Moja, which means one in Swahili, is the first lion cub born in the new lion habitat in the Predators of Asia & Africa section of the zoo.
The zoo said Moja was born in October, and he is a healthy, playful cub.
His parents are mom, Saba, and dad, Jabulani, and this is Saba’s first cub.
The Fort Worth Zoo posted an adorable video of the cub on its Facebook page along with some glamor shots.
For now, Moja will not be in the public habitat until zookeepers are confident that he is “big and strong enough to navigate the new space,” the Facebook post said.
“This little guy is learning what play means and can usually be found pouncing and playing with mom,” the post said. “We are so excited about this little one and can’t wait for you to meet him soon!”
The zoo welcomed its three adult lions back in 2012 from a wildlife facility in South Africa.
“With this birth, we are proud to continue to contribute to the conservation of this vulnerable species,” the post said.
