JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A head-on collision in Johnson County, near Dallas-Fort Worth, on Tuesday, Dec. 26, left six people dead and three others hospitalized, NBC DFW reports.

The crash is believed to have happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday after one of the vehicles involved was in a no passing zone and struck the other vehicle, according to the Dallas Morning News via investigators.

The six people killed in the incident were believed to be from the same family; two were children.

"Please say a prayer for the families of the deceased and injured. Also, please pray for our Deputies, Troopers and all other first responders working this accident. It’s a devastating scene and very emotional for all involved," the Johnson County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday.

Those who were injured were airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. Authorities haven't released names of any victims involved in the wreck.

Johnson County is located southwest of Dallas.

According to a study from Policygenius, Texas was second on the list of states with the most car accidents in 2020, with 3,874 deaths out of 3,520 accidents in that year. More recently, a data report from the Texas Department of Transportation shows there were no deathless days on Texas roadways in 2022.
