DALLAS — An argument can be made that Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano is the greatest American-born NHL player of all time. He’s certainly in the top 5.
In any case, the former captain will soon be honored with a statue outside American Airlines Center in Dallas, home ice for the Stars.
According to the team, the statue will be unveiled on March 16, 2024. It will be located on PNC Plaza.
In a 21-season career, Modano amassed 561 goals and 1,374 points. That makes him the leader among American-born players. He holds the record for most NHL playoff points among American-born players and games played by an American-born forward.
He also holds the Dallas Stars franchise record for most games played.
Modano led the Stars to a Stanley Cup in 1999. He was also on the U.S. men’s national team that won a gold medal at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. He helped Team USA obtain silver in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
Modano played in eight NHL All-Stars Games.
The forward, a Michigan native, finished his career with the Detroit Red Wings.
