DALLAS — Like everything else, when it comes to state fairs, Texas does them the biggest and best.

The annual State Fair of Texas gets underway Friday at Fair Park in Dallas and continues until Oct. 22.

Besides several returning favorite attractions, this year you’ll find plenty of new family-friendly activities and exhibits. Here’s a look at some highlights.

Soap Bubble Circus

Have you heard of “bubble-ology”? You’ll discover exactly what that is if you visit the Oak Farms Theater. The Soap Bubble Circus performs “Guinness World Record-breaking feats,” according to Fair organizers. That includes a snowman dancing across a tightrope and an exploding volcano.

Street Circus

A husband-and-wife duo brings their high-flying act to the Fringe Stage. The acrobats’ show includes hula hoops, handstands, contortion, comedy and more.

Dinosaurs at the Lagoon

Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Dinosaurs at the Lagoon will include 10 life-sized dinosaurs found in Texas, a play area and seating and dining options.

Dino Tales with Dr. Diggie-Bones

Continuing the dinosaur theme, kids can join Dr. Diggie-Bones at her dig site for interactive story time. The stories are focused on archeological digs, pre-historic creatures, and more.

Acrobuffos

Prepare to get wet. Acrobuffos brings “Water Bombs” to the Fringe Stage. It’s an interactive water balloon fight, and if you don’t want to get drenched, bring an umbrella.

Home for the Holidays Experience

Start your holidays early. Decorated Christmas trees will be on display for the whole family. This is included with paid admission to Texas Discovery Gardens.

Sara Twister

Street performer Sara Twister specializes in contortion and archery. Cather her trick shots and comedy at the Fringe Stage.
