TEXAS — Willie Nelson celebrated his 90th birthday on April 29. He has no plans to retire.
The country legend and Texas resident will release a new studio album titled “Bluegrass” on Sept. 15.
The album features 12 of Nelson’s favorite self-penned classics recorded with a bluegrass ensemble. It will include one track Nelson co-wrote with Waylon Jennings, “Good Hearted Woman.”
If you’re counting, this will be his 151st album.
Described as “a salute to the Appalachian old-time string band music,” the album marks Nelson’s first tribute to the genre.
Nelson is enjoying a packed 2023. “Willie Nelson & Family,” a five-part documentary, is slated for broadcast later this year.
Nelson held a two-day concert celebrating his birthday at the Hollywood Bowl in April.
Nelson took home two Grammy awards this year: Best Country Solo Performance for “Live Forever” and Best Country Album for “A Beautiful Time.”
Nelson is one of the 2023 inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The singer and guitarist is bringing his friends and family on the road for what is described as the biggest Outlaw Music Festival tour to date.
Nelson’s new book, “Energy Follows Thought: The Stories Behind My Songs,” releases Oct. 31.
The “Bluegrass” track list is:
- No Love Around
- Somebody Pick Up My Pieces
- Good Hearted Woman
- Sad Songs And Waltzes
- Home Motel
- You Left Me A Long, Long Time Ago
- Yesterday’s Wine
- Bloody Mary Morning
- Slow Down Old World
- Still Is Still Moving To Me
