TEXAS — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) issued a Weather Watch for Sept. 6 through 8. The Weather Watch is due to projected triple-digit temperatures, higher electrical demand and potential for lower reserves.

Highs in Austin and Dallas are expected to reach up to 107 on Friday. San Antonio's highest projected temperature this week will reach up to 104 on Friday.

Strain on the grid due to multiple days of triple-digit heat has been common in this historically hot summer Texas is experiencing. Despite this, grid conditions are expected to be normal during this Weather Watch, according to ERCOT. In the graph below, the projected demand does not appear to exceed power supply during for the next week.

Combined with a lack of rain in recent months, the heat in the Lone Star State is palpable as triple-digit summer days continue.

But there are several energy-saving tips you can follow when temperatures are high:

  • If it's safe to do so, raise your thermostat by a degree or two
  • Avoid using large appliances like a washer/dryer
  • Turn off and unplug non-essential lights/appliances
