AUSTIN, Texas — A death on the campus of Travis Early College High School in Austin, Texas, on Thursday morning resulted in classes being canceled for the rest of the week.

Austin ISD reported the incident on social media about 9 a.m., stating that there was no threat to students or staff and that the campus was safe.

The district was working on getting students who were already on campus home.

About 10:30 a.m. Thursday, district officials provided more information. According to Austin ISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed, a female body was found hanging from a tree. AISD confirmed the body is of an 11th grade student. 

Sneed said no students saw the body. There was no immediate information provided about the cause of death. Mental health resources are being provided to students, Sneed said.
