AUSTIN, Texas — Greg Burrow loves anything related to pop culture. He works at Dragon's Lair Comics and Fantasy in Austin.
"I love a lot of things that are superhero related. I love a lot of 'Ghostbusters,' 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek,'" Burrow said.
And there's nothing he can't make or modify like his Stormtrooper masks from 'Star Wars' or the 50-plus costumes he owns. Burrow is part of the group Heroes of Texas. They wear costumes to bring joy to those in need. A lot of their visits are to children in the hospital.
"There are times I've been called in when a child is on their death bed. Those are really hard. You have to be up while you're in there. So, you usually break down when you leave," he said.
But it's that little bit of joy Burrow leaves behind that makes every hospital visit worth it. He makes sure each of his costumes is completely accurate. Some are expensive, but what Burrow receives in return is priceless.
"Going in a costume like Batman and taking that child out of that situation just for a few moments, and letting them be a kid again, just for a few moments, it's a wonderful and beautiful thing," Burrow said.
