Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was called out on social media after this past weekend tweeting out a link to a satirical story about country singer Garth Brooks as if it were factual.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, linked to a story by satire website The Dunning-Krueger Times. Abbott clearly didn’t do any research as the website clearly states, “Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the ‘America’s Last Line of Defense’ network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it before they lost their war on satire: Junk News.”

The satirical story concerns country icon Garth Brooks being booed off the stage at the “123rd Annual Texas Country Jamboree” in “Hambriston, Texas,”

There is no Texas Country Jamboree. Nor is there a Hambriston, Texas.

“Garth Brooks Booed Off Stage at 123rd Annual Texas Country Jamboree. Go woke. Go Broke. Garth called his conservative fans. ‘(Expletive).’ Good job Texas,” Abbott wrote in the since-deleted tweet.

While it appears that Abbott realized his mistake and deleted the tweet quickly, it was not before it was screenshotted several times, including by U.S. Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas.

“Gov Abbott just accidentally posted a satire article because he wants to hate on queer Texans and Garth Brooks so bad,” Casar tweeted. “The Texas Country Jamboree doesn’t exist. Hambriston, Texas is not real. And the Governor is not fit to tweet, much less govern. Happy pride!”
