HOUSTON — The Houston Fire Department responded to a house fire that may have been started by an electric car charger in the garage.

The fire department received the call of a residential fire and arrived on scene around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, they found smoke coming out of an attached garage of the home. The fire department made entry and got the fire under control.

According to HFD, the owner the home had his electric Audi car plugged into its charging port in the garage. Something happened with the cord and it caught fire. Chief Ed Llewellyn of District 6 said the occupants were home at the time but everyone evacuated safely.

When asked about the conditions of the vehicle in the garage, he said it remains under investigation by the arson department. No injuries were reported.
