HOUSTON — Texans are gearing up for a grand yeehaw time as one of the state’s biggest events returns. Thursday kicked off opening day of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with the fan favorite barbecue cookoff.

The event attracts more than two million people each year to NRG Park. Rodeo-goers look forward to not only one the livestock show, but food, musical performances and attractions.

Big musical acts such as Bun B, will host Bun B’s Southern Takeover for a second year in a row on March 3. The annual show brings familiar faces back to center stage such as Parker McCollum, who will perform opening night. This year’s big ticket names also include Machine Gun Kelly, who is making his rodeo debut, Chris Stapleton and Luke Bryan who perform on March 14, March 16, and March 19, respectively. There will be 20 musical acts this year, including:

  • March 11: Turnpike Troubadours
  • March 12: La Fiera de Ojinaga
  • March 13: Cody Jinks
  • March 14: Machine Gun Kelly
  • March 15: Kenny Chesney
  • March 16: Chris Stapleton
  • March 17: Cody Johnson
  • March 18: Brad Paisley
  • March 19: Luke Bryan

If this is your first rodeo, before you dust off your cowboy boots and hat, prepare to arrive early as the weekday rodeos start at 6:45 p.m. and concert performances began at 9 p.m. On the weekend, the rodeo starts at 3:45 p.m. and the musical performances take place at 6 p.m. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs until March 19.
