As of Monday, Nov. 14, the Bohls Middle School teacher was no longer employed at Pflugerville ISD and the school district is looking for a replacement.

The video of the interaction between the teacher and his student was posted on social media, garnering national attention.

In the video, the former teacher is seen saying to his multi-racial class, “Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one.”

When a student asked if he considered himself a racist, the teacher responded, “I did, yeah, I’m trying to be honest.”

Pflugerville ISD did not identify the teacher. Instead, it apologized to the students and families at the middles school for “undue stress or concern” the situation may have created.

“We want to reiterate that this conversation does not align with our core beliefs and is not a reflection of our district or our culture at Bohls Middle School. Pflugerville ISD and Bohls MS staff work together to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our students. The advisory discussion was inappropriate, inaccurate, and unacceptable; and this type of interaction will not be tolerated in any PfISD schools,” said Pflugerville Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian in a statement.

Dr. Killian further stated that there are counselors and administrators available to students and families who want to discuss the situation.

“We always do our best to ensure the safety of all students; we encourage them to be self-advocates and let an adult know when something is wrong, as they did in this situation. If you see something, say something,” said Dr. Killian.
