DALLAS — Family, friends and fans of Mo3 continue to wait for justice in the Dallas rapper’s 2020 death. The man charged in Melvin Noble’s death received a sentence of nine years for a separate crime earlier this week.

U.S. District Judge Karen Gren Scholer issued her ruling on Tuesday, said U.S. Attorney for the District of Texas, Chad Meacham. In May, 23-year-old Kewon Dontrell White pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to authorities, White had prior felony offenses, including unauthorized use of motor vehicles, evading arrest and detention along with possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Police uncovered a pistol in White's pockets on Aug. 16, 2020. White, who committed a traffic violation on his dirt bike driving down Wrest Pleasant Run Road in Lancaster, fled on foot after crashing trying to flee from authorities.

At the time of Mo3’s deadly shooting, Dallas Police described the incident that unfolded on a busy highway as a “brazen attack.” The day of the attack, Noble traveled northbound on I-35 at Clarendon Drive. White allegedly exited a Camaro and chased Noble southward on foot. Noble also exited his vehicle, attempting to flee the scene on foot. White fired multiple rounds at Noble, police say. An innocent bystander suffered from gunshot wounds.

White left the scene traveling northbound on Interstate 35. Noble later died at an area hospital from his injuries. Police say the bystander, also taken to a local hospital, survived their injuries.

White’s case related to Mo3 remains pending.
