AUSTIN, Texas — A century-old building in downtown Austin houses the Texas Toy Museum. It was created by Caleb Zammit and features his own collection of old toys.

“It pretty much runs the gamut of all of the ‘who’s who’ of famous toys,” said Zammit.

Zammit started his collection years ago. He had so many vintage toys he ran out of room at his home.

“Kind of got too big for the house and I had been researching toy museums all over the world and wanted to open one of my own, and I eventually did,” said Zammit.

He collected Star Wars toys for years, many of which are on display at the museum.

“There’s the Droids collection, and the Ewoks collection, and the original 'New Hope,' 'Return of the Jedi,'” said Zammit.

Much of his collection dates back to the 1960s. The toys on display are not for sale, but you can put a price on them.

“So, G.I. Joe has somewhat quadrupled in value if they’re the more popular ones,” said Zammit.

But you won’t find Zammit’s priciest piece on a shelf inside the museum.

“The most valuable thing I have is probably X-Men #1. It’s worth about $10,000 right now," he said.

But his collection is valuable in other ways. It brings joy to people who stop by the museum.

“I’ve just always loved toys. I love the sculptural aspect and sharing it with the community,” said Zammit.
