TEXAS — Commemorate Earth Day at H-E-B with a free custom-designed reusable bag. Starting at 1 p.m. on April 22, the San Antonio-based supermarket chain will be handing out 250,000 complimentary Earth Day bags to customers of H-E-B, Mi Tienda, Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop. The bags are made of recycled plastic bottles and are designed by an H-E-B partner.
H-E-B has handed out nearly 3 million reusable bags on Earth Day since 2008. This year’s bag design, For the Love of Texas, was created by San Antonio artist Julia Rojas. It features several native plants and animals.
Customers can pay $1.50 for an additional reusable bag.
Stores across the state will be hosting in-store Environmental Educational Scavenger Hunts to show children how they can protect the environment and practice sustainability. There will also be a variety of other in-store events to commemorate Earth Day with their communities.
Through May 24, customers have the option to donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout online or in the store to benefit EarthShare of Texas, a nonprofit that supports more than 70 conservation groups.
The supermarket chain has also teamed up with 150 schools across the state in a recycling contest to determine which school can collect the most plastic bags. Winners will be announced in May.
