SALADO, Texas — As another round of tornadoes ripped through the Lone Star State Tuesday afternoon, people in Bell County are grateful to Johnny’s Steaks and Bar-be-que and its staff for providing shelter during the storm.
Rachel Davis is a 21-year-old server at the restaurant who recalls getting customers to safety as the tornado touched down in the area.
“We needed to get people to shelter, so I actually just went outside and yelled for everyone to come inside,” said Davis.
Davis has worked at Johnny’s Steaks and Bar-be-cue for a year and a half. While on her shift Monday, she could hear the sirens alerting them the tornado was nearby.
“We could hear the tornado coming through at one point. It just sounded like a really loud train and a lot of hail hitting,” recalled Davis.
The severe weather in Salado produced hail the size of a human hand. It also produced a tornado that caused damage to homes and businesses in the area.
“It was pretty terrifying, but luckily we had a good management staff that took care of us and got us into the kitchen as well as all of the customers,” said Davis.
Davis says she’s thankful no one was hurt during the severe weather event and cites her faith for the weathering the storm.
“I do not live in the spirit of fear but to trust God. He is our refugee and our strength. Psalms 91, and I don’t have to act with anxiety during those times and I know if things were to go wrong that I have a God to protect me,” said Davis.
