SALADO, Texas — Standing in the destruction of the Victory Baptist Church, where he has led services for the past four decades, Pastor Billy Borho is heartbroken.

“It’s just hard to process when you see this,” Borho said. “Someone called and told us that the church was gone and we took their word for it, but couldn’t explain what it looked like.”

Borho doesn’t have to words to explain how the church that’s been in this spot for 40 years can be gone in an instant.

“The Bible gives us a reference to mountains and valleys on the hilltop,” Borho said. “We’re in the valley. Thankful that nobody got hurt, and for the devastation it looked like a war zone,” Borho said. “It looks like hundreds of people could’ve got killed, but we are still praising God.”

Of all the days, today is a reminder of what “love thy neighbor” means.

“So many people want to help, want to be a part, we’ve had people from all over the country call,” Borho said.

While the physical structure is gone, Borho says he is grateful for the people who make up the congregation. It is so much more than doors, windows and walls.

“The church is invisible, it doesn’t have a scratch,” Borho said. “This church might need a little paint job, but other than that, we’re good and will rebuild.”

Despite missing its entire structure, the church says it will still hold services on Easter Sunday on its original foundation.

A GoFundMe page* has been setup to help the church rebuild.
