TEXAS — Leticia Van de Putte, a former Texas state senator from San Antonio, was badly injured Sunday in an auto-pedestrian crash in Orlando, Florida, according to her husband.

She was the pedestrian in the crash and is being treated in a Florida hospital.

“Yesterday, my wife Leticia was involved in a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident in Florida. She was the pedestrian. She suffered multiple injuries but is currently in stable condition,” Pete Van de Putte wrote in a Facebook post. “We ask that you keep her and her family in your prayers. I will update you as we know more.”

Leticia Van de Putte, 67, represented the 26th District in the Texas Senate from 1999-2015. She additionally was a member of the Texas House from 1991-1999.

In 2014, she was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor but lost in the general election to current lieutenant governor Dan Patrick.

Following that, she ran for mayor of San Antonio, narrowly losing to Ivy Taylor.
