TEXAS — Texas on Sunday again reported nearly 50,000 new cases of COVID-19 but there wasn’t a dramatic uptick in hospitalizations, which is the first bit of positive news related to state virus data in weeks.
The Department of State Health Services on Sunday reported 49,197 new confirmed cases of the virus as well as 8,921 new probable cases for a total of 58,118.
The state additionally reported 77 new deaths attributed to the disease.
There are now 13,099 patents hospitalized with COVID in Texas. That’s down slightly from Saturday’s totals but higher than Friday’s 13,094.
Of those hospitalized in Texas, 2,665 are in intensive care and 1,517 are on ventilators.
There are 478 pediatric patients hospitalized with the virus in Texas but none of them are in intensive care. The state added 2,121 hospital admissions in the 24 hours leading up to its Sunday afternoon report.
