DALLAS — Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa will step down from his position by the end of the year. He made the announcement at a press conference Thursday

He did not say what he plans to do next, but said "he will be around."

Dallas ISD is the second-largest school district in Texas behind Houston ISD and the 16th-largest in the U.S.

According to his online bio, Hinojosa started his career in education as a teacher and coach at W.H. Adamson High School. He served as Dallas ISD superintendent from 2005-2011 and returned as interim superintendent in July 2015.

In October 2015, the Board of Trustees approved his reappointment as superintendent.

Dallas ISD includes 230 schools, roughly 145,000 students and employs about 22,000 people.
