Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban has purchased an entire Texas town, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News.

What You Need To Know

  • Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has purchased the town of Mustang, Texas, which is located about 60 miles southeast of Dallas

  • The town currently has a population of zero, and there’s little there other than an abandoned strip club and an empty mobile home park

  • The town was originally listed at $4 million, but reports suggest Cuban got Mustang for less than that

  • Mustang was previously owned by Marty Price, a Mavericks fan who got sick and wanted to sell the town. Price died in August

Given that the town is small and all but empty, there are questions as to why.

Mustang, Texas, located in Navarro County, about 60 miles southeast of Dallas, is situated on nearly 77 acres. There’s little there other than a closed strip club and empty mobile home park.

“Did it to help a friend. No plans yet!” Cuban told NBC News in an email.

The asking price for Mustang was $4 million but Cuban snatched it up for less than that, reports indicate.

The property previously was principally owned by Marty Price, a Mavericks fan who fell ill and wanted to sell. Price died in August.

Mustang currently has no residents, though there are some positives. It’s about an hour’s drive from Dallas and three from Houston. In 2010, the population was 21, according to census figures, making it the least populous town in Texas.

According to available history of the town, Mustang was incorporated in 1973, chiefly for the purpose of selling alcohol in what was then a dry Navarro County.
