Police in a news conference before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday reported four people were injured earlier in the morning in a shooting at Timberview High School, which is located in Arlington, Texas.
Investigators said it appears the incident began as a fight and one of the students involved in that fight drew a weapon and began firing.
Three of the four victims were taken to a hospital. The fourth victim sustained minor injuries. It is believed that two of the victims have gunshot wounds. The victims are:
- A 15-year-old boy who was critically injured and underwent surgery.
- A 25-year-old man who is listed in good condition.
- A teenage female who suffered an abrasion. It's anticipated she'll be released from the hospital soon.
- A pregnant woman who was treated for her injuries at the shooting scene.
The shooting prompted the high school to go into lockdown. However, that lockdown was lifted and police gave the all-clear.
The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins. Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, police reported Simpkins came to the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center with an attorney and turned himself in without incident. He has since been booked into the Arlington City Jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond has been set at $75,000.
The Arlington Police Department about 10:45 a.m. CDT reported that a parent reunification location has been set up at the Mansfield ISD Center for Performing Arts, which is located at 1110 W. Debbie Lane. Officers will be at that location and students are being bused there as of 11 a.m.
The following Mansfield ISD schools were placed on lockout Wednesday as a precautionary measure as police continued to investigate the shooting:
- Arlington Collegiate High School at Tarrant County College
- Ashworth Elementary
- Barnett Elementary
- Beckham Elementary
- Bebensee Elementary
- Bowie High School
- Bryant Elementary
- Hale Elementary
- Ousley Junior High
- Pearcy STEM Academy
Shannon Holmes, executive director of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, released a statement concerning the shooting that says, in part, "We are saddened to hear of yet another shooting in a place that should be the safeest and most welcoming - the public school. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, and families of Timberview High School, and we are grateful to the Mansfield ISD educators and administrators and area law enforcement who quickly leapt into action to address this dangerous situation."
