Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday, according to his communications director Mark Miner.

A statement released by Abbott's office notes that the governor undergoes daily testing, with Tuesday being his first positive result.

Gov. Abbott is fully vaccinated, is in "good health" and is currently experiencing no symptoms, according to the statement.

"Governor Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads, and government officials to ensure that state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently," the statement reads. "The Governor will isolate in the Governor's Mansion and continue to test daily. Governor Abbott is receiving Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment."

First Lady Cecilia Abbott tested negative, and everyone Abbott has been in close contact with Tuesday has been notified, according to the statement.

Hours before the announcement, Abbott posted photos to Twitter of him meeting with Jimmmie Vaughan, brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan. It’s unclear whether that meeting took place today or on a previous date.

Abbott also attended a packed event in Collin County Monday where there was little social distancing and few masks worn.

“Another standing room only event in Collin County tonight. Thank y’all for the enthusiastic reception,” Abbott tweeted after the event.

Abbott was not wearing a mask in photos posted on social media and shook hands with many of the attendees. He’s been adamant about not bringing back mask mandates to help fight the spread of the virus, even as the highly contagious delta variant overwhelms Texas hospitals.
