DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas — Sunny Moberg’s love for welding comes full circle. He makes barbecue smokers out of old propane tanks. His passion is seeing two pieces of metal become one.

What You Need To Know

  • Sunny Moberg has his own Texas business turning old propane tanks into barbeque smokers

  • Barbeque is in Moberg's blood

  • The Moberg Smoker is sold across the nation to pit masters everywhere

“I asked my dad for a welder, when I was 15, for Christmas, and he got me one. And that’s where I started learning to weld,” said Moberg.

Moberg practiced his craft on different metals, but barbecue was in his blood.

"So, every family reunion, every get together, there was brisket and sausage," said Moberg.

Moberg combined two loves into one and the Moberg Smoker was born.

“I love barbecue, and I love to make barbecue, but my passion is truly making the smokers,” said Moberg.

Moberg’s team uses old, decommissioned propane tanks to make the smokers. Some of them go back decades.

“Some of these date back to the 40s. If they could only talk," said Moberg.

The people who buy them are talking. The Moberg Smoker caught lots of attention on social media. Now Moberg ships to pit masters around the world from his workshop in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Moberg is booked up for the next couple of years. He never imagined a love for welding would turn into big business. He calls it a blessing mixed with a lot of hard work.

“We go home tired, and exhausted, and dirty. But it's something I truly have a passion for and blessed to be able to provide for my family with it,” said Moberg.
