AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting downtown that left one person dead.

In an early morning press briefing, Officer Michael Bullock said police responded to a “shots fired” call near the intersection of Interstate 35 and East 7th Street.

While police were investigating, a second 9-1-1 call came in from Colorado and West 18th Street, where authorities found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. It is believed that the victims were shot near I-35 and 7th Street.

The woman died on the scene, but the man was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

It is not known exactly how many people were involved in the incident or what exactly occurred leading up to the shooting. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Capital Area Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information leading to an arrest.
