DALLAS — A workout from Jay Johnson is nothing short of intense. As a military veteran and trainer for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, health and fitness are in his blood.

He says for the past 40 years, food and diet have been a vital part of his life. As a seasoned trainer, his workouts are derived from his military background.

“It’s not as easy as it looks, cause I got a timer on you,” Johnson says. “What you’re doing is competing against yourself.”

Johnson claims his love for the military stemmed from his childhood.

“I joined the military and went into infantry training,” Johnson says. “I went off to Korea and I loved it. I loved that the training was hard. I was built for it. My dad was a disciplinarian. If I could have signed up for 40 years as a 17-year-old, I would have!”

His lifestyle combined with his faith is what prompted him to start his newest venture, the “Fitvangelist Program.”

“It’s basically faith-based fitness,” Johnson says. "We’re using scripture to empower and transform lives.”

Johnson believes there is scripture and biblical proof to support the idea that the food you put into your body matters and that exercise is vital to an abundant life.

“The Bible confronts everything in our lives to include yes, nutrition and self-control,” Johnson says.

He explains this is an easy approach to life and it’s just about being wise regarding the things you eat and do.

Johnson finished by saying that it’s actually not motivation, but discipline and self-control that will lead you to success.
