TEXAS —  Early voting wraps up Tuesday for Texas’s May 1 election. Voters are deciding on various issues across the state.

In Austin, voters will decide whether to repeal the ordinance allowing tents and camping. The city's decision to decriminalize camping drew strong criticism from residents, including Gov. Greg Abbott.

In San Antonio, there is a petition-driven initiative to repeal a state law that gives police officers collective bargaining rights. Activists say Chapter 174 results in cops who have been fired for wrongdoing getting back on the force.

In North Texas, voters in Arlington will be filling Rep. Ron Wright's vacant District 6 seat. Wright died in February after battling COVID-19.

In South Texas, the city of McAllen will be electing a new mayor after Jim Darling decided not to seek re-election. Voters will also decide on the four city council seats up for grabs.

As of this month, there are 16,670,187 registered voters in Texas.

Polls will open again Saturday, May 1 for the election.
