TEXAS — Texas, among other things, is known for gas and oil, but according to Chicago-based developer Invenenergy, by 2023 it will be home to the nation’s largest solar energy farm.
The 1,310-megawatt farm, known as the Samson Solar Energy Center, will support five major consumer brands and supply energy to three Texas municipalities.
Samson Solar Energy Center will span Lamar, Franklin, and Red River counties and it is projected that it will be capable of supplying power to 300,000 homes.
Landowners are receiving $250 million for leasing their land.
Companies buying in are AT&T, McDonald’s, Google, The Home Depot, and Honda.
Cities which will be served are the Denton, Garland, and Bryan.
