TEXAS – The high temperatures might not indicate it but fall is upon us in Texas. White-tailed deer season has arrived in the Lone Star State, but there are some things you should be aware of before venturing outside to claim your deer.
According to Texas Parks & Wildlife, white-tailed deer season got underway for archers back on October 3, but the general season is from November 7 – January 3, 2021, in the North Zone, and November 7 – January 17, 2021, in the South Zone.
In order to get a deer, you’ll first have to obtain a license. For information on obtaining one and what you’ll need in order to do so, click here.
You should also know that bag limits are established by Texas counties. Still, no one may exceed the annual bag limit of five white-tailed deer, no more than three of which may be bucks. For information on bag limits in your county, click here.
Also know that a tag from the hunting license of the person who killed the deer must be correctly and legibly completed and immediately attached to the animal. For information on tagging a deer, click here.
There are a number of other rules to be aware of including regulations on hunting on federal land, restricted areas within counties, social distancing measures in place this year, and rules pertaining to cold storage and processing. All of that is available on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.
