TEXAS — In partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival, Walmart is turning the parking lots of 160 of its store locations into drive-in movie theaters.

The outdoor cinemas will run from August 14 through October 21 with 320 showings of blockbuster movies, including: Friday Night Lights, The Karate Kid, E.T. and more. Ahead of each presentation, there will also be a screening of short films including Bird Karma and Looney Tunes’ Boo! Appetweet.

Eight North Texas Walmart Supercenters will be participating. That includes the locations at:

  • 425 Coit Road, Plano
  • 1634 Market Place Blvd, Irving
  • 355 Stonebrook Parkway, Frisco
  • 1228 N. U.S. Highway 377, Roanoke
  • 4101 Highway 121, Bedford
  • 2225 W. Interstate 20, Grand Prairie
  • 2041 Redbud Blvd., McKinney
  • 2750 W. University Drive, Denton

The touring drive-in will be open on certain dates at certain locations.

The movies are free to Walmart customers, though they will have to reserve a space at the drive-in website. Once confirmed, customers will receive a QR code that will grant vehicle entry on the day of the event.

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months, and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” said Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside in a news release. “The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”
