SAN ANTONIO -- Students took to the steps of the city council chambers to demand action on the environment Saturday.
- Around 150 people participated
- Rallies being held nationwide
- All focusing on raising awareness about the environment
A crowd of about 150 people took part in the demonstrations designed to show San Antonio leaders how climate change is affecting their future.
"I hope they can see how important it is to us," said participant Vanessa Ramon.
The group walked down several blocks holding signs to rally for change as San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg listened on.
"We need the young people of this community to take over, to lift their voices," said Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

For Ramon, the rally and march is to raise awareness about the urgent need for climate action.
"We can talk the talk all day long but to actually walk the walk, it shows them how important it is to us for us to spend our time letting everyone see that we care and we’re going to use our voice. We’re going to do all that we can to save our earth,” said Ramon.
The youth climate strike rally is part of a series of rallies happening nationwide this weekend to raise awareness about the health of our planet.
