SAN ANTONIO -- Since last year, a new effort by the Salvation Army called the Bridge Program has been helping women overcome barriers in order to succeed.

- Helps women get back on their feet
A year ago this initiative started because the Salvation Army noticed that a lot of women were coming to the emergency family shelter, staying a few days, and then leaving.
However, they ultimately ended up in the same position where they started.
"We've seen a tremendous response for our Bridge Program. Today we are at full capacity and we remain that way most of the time," said Roxanne Ponce, program manager.
Each night, 25 to 30 women find safety, security, and a second chance at the Bridge Program. For $12.50 a night, they are given three hot meals, a clean place to shower, a space to keep their belongings, and access to help finding employment.
Every situation is different and there's no time length, but there are requirements to stay.
"We do have case managers on-site who work close with the client to make sure they are attending life skills, that there is financial literacy going on, that the client is learning how to set a budget," Ponce said.
