SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Police officer was attacked on the city's Southside while responding to a break-in late Tuesday morning and is currently recovering after being sent to the hospital.

The officer was called to Burcham Avenue after reports of a man breaking into a nearby home. When the officer approached the 42-year-old suspect, he was with his 9-year-old child.
The officer confronted the suspect. The suspect was tased but continued to fight with police. The officer's face was hurt but the child wasn't. Police are crediting the homeowner with helping to track down the burglar.
“That homeowner was concerned for the child followed that individual because he was concerned about the child and provided that information to police,” said Sgt. Michelle Ramos, of the San Antonio Police Department.
Police were eventually able to subdue the suspect. He'll be charged with assault on a police officer and burglary with attempt to commit assault.
