1. Judge sets Trump federal election case for March 4, 2024

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan announced Monday that the federal trial accusing former President Donald Trump of working to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election will begin on March 4, 2024.

2. American Airlines fined $4.1 million for dozens of long tarmac delays that trapped passengers

The federal government is fining American Airlines $4.1 million for dozens of instances in which passengers were kept on board planes without a chance to exit during long ground delays. 

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Monday it is the largest such fine against an airline since rules covering long ground delays took effect about a decade ago.

3. Texas takeover raises back-to-school anxiety for Houston students, parents and teachers

The largest school district in Texas is opening a new chapter as it begins the school year. A state takeover of the Houston school district has a new superintendent making what he calls bold changes. 

Parents and staff have expressed anxiety and fear over what to expect as the new school year begins Monday.

4. UNC lifts lockdown after suspected gunman arrested

Police arrested a suspected gunman hours after reports of an active shooter shut down the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an investigator told Spectrum News 1.

There was a heavy police presence on campus Monday afternoon.
