FORT WORTH, Texas — Davhon Keys has a passion for greatness.
“It’s really hard to be great at football, and aspiring to be great is a great challenge for me,” Keys said.
The senior linebacker has already experienced some greatness playing for perennial powerhouse Aledo High School.
“The dedication to show up at 6:30 in the morning, even though you had left the school at 9 p.m., that really sets us apart from the other schools,” Keys said.
The Bearcats won their 11th state football title last season, which is a UIL record. They begin the 2023 season ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, Division I.
“It’s hard to describe the feeling. It’s more than just yourself knowing that 10 different teams went out, worked hard and came out on top,” said Keys, who recorded five tackles and a forced fumble in the state championship.
He also scored two short touchdowns in the win, but defense is where he’ll play at the next level.
“I bring speed, explosiveness. I got power. I can do it all. Versatile is the word,” Keys said.
The 6-foot, 215 pounder is verbally committed to play at LSU.
“There was no singular deciding factor," Keys said about his commitment. "I love Coach Kelly....I love the whole staff. I love the campus, the culture. Everything about it was great.”
