1. DeSantis, Abbott send migrants to Martha's Vineyard, VP's home
The Republican governors of Florida and Texas transported scores of migrants Wednesday and Thursday morning to Martha’s Vineyard and near the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris.
The flights were part of a $12 million program approved by the Florida Legislature to “facilitate the transport of illegal immigrants from this state consistent with federal law."
These are tactics Florida and Texas Republican officials are using to highlight the Biden administration's border policies.
2. Griner, Whelan families to meet Biden amid U.S.-Russia talks
President Joe Biden plans to meet at the White House on Friday with family members of WNBA star Brittney Griner and Michigan corporate security executive Paul Whelan, both of whom remain jailed in Russia.
In the past several months, representatives of both families have expressed frustration over what they perceived as a lack of aggressive action and coordination from the administration.
3. Skydance, Matthew McConaughey cancel ‘Dallas Sting’ movie following allegations
Matthew McConaughey and a production company have dropped out of much-anticipated sports film, “Dallas Sting.”
An “impropriety” that Skydance and producers were made aware of quickly prompted them to withdraw from the film after investigation led to allegations surrounding the actual story.
4. 'A win for America': Biden announces 'tentative agreement' to avert nationwide rail strike
President Joe Biden announced Thursday that the White House reached a "tentative agreement" to avert a nationwide rail strike that could have caused major supply chain issues and imperiled the nation's economy.
Railroads and union representatives had been in negotiations for 20 hours at the Labor Department on Wednesday to hammer out a deal, as there was a risk of a strike starting on Friday that could have shut down rail lines across the country.
